Last Saturday 18th May saw Charnwood AC once again competing in the YDL Lower Age Group (U13/U15) at Stoke. Having won the previous match in late April by nearly 100 points with a team of over 50 athletes hopes were high, not least for better weather than previously!

On Sunday 10th March the Leicestershire and Rutland Dome Challenge took place at Sir Jonathan North Community College.  Young athletes competed in 4 events, a sprint, middle distance run, chest throw and standing jump.

Charnwood AC athletes took part in the Midland Counties road relay championships at Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield on Saturday 22 September with some impressive performances again from the juniors.

Our third premier league event in 2018 took us to Milton Keynes on a hot day so the team managers’   5 point mantra for the day was suncream, water, shade, hat and t-shirt.

The team was a little depleted with injuries and reduced events for those selected for English Schools, but there were several notable results.

Charnwood AC’s young athletes braved blustery and showery conditions to compete against other Midland County athletes in a 3-person cross country relay event in Wolverhampton on Saturday.  This time it was the turn of the U13 girls to achieve the Club’s greatest success, achieving gold in spectacular fashion.

As a consequence of some excellent performances during the season some of Charnwood’s young stars were given an amazing opportunity to take part in the Club:Connect relays, which were held as part of the Diamond League event held at Birmingham on 20th August. The teams all performed admirably, although the U20 Women suffered the heartbreak of a late disqualification having crossed the line in first.

Massive congratulations to Victoria Johnson (80mh & Relay) and Amy Hunt (100m & Relay) who both won two silver medals at the Schools International whilst representing English Schools. Selection to represent English Schools comes on the back of an excellent performance at the English Schools Championships.

On Friday 7th July and Saturday 8th July 2017 Birmingham Alexander Stadium hosted the 87th edition of the English Schools Athletics Championships.

Athletes from the Charnwood AC competed at the Championships representing Leicestershire & Rutland Schools and Lincolnshire Schools.
