National Indoor Champs - Track
Midland U17 indoor 60m hurdles Champion Victoria Johnson surpassed herself to take the gold medal at the British Junior Championships at the weekend. The diminutive sprint hurdler showed that size doesn’t matter when she stormed to victory. Having won her heat and semi finals with personal best times the former under U15 silver medallist then beat the favourite and British ranked no1 to claim the title.
Also competing in the hurdles was training partner Midland U20 Bronze medallist David Areety who ran a personal best time to narrowly miss qualifying for the final by one place in an event where Charnwood would have hoped to win another gold, defending Champion and this years British number 1 ranked athlete, Tre Thomas having to withdraw.
In the sprints Kyle Calhoun and Ben Higgins having now both moved up to the U20 age group both made the semi finals of the 400m, Kyle then going on to run an indoor PB in the 200 to win his heat to qualify for the semi final in a time that would have qualified him for the final but unfortunately had to withdraw due to a sore hamstring.
